This is a set of blades that were made as a pair for one of my customers to go along with a Randal Graham katana that he already owned. The idea behind the project was to make a progression from blade to blade, as these symbolized his progression from one level in his Jujutsu training to the next.
The katana was made from W1 monosteel (shodan level), the wakizashi was made from my forge-folded steel (nidan level), and the tanto is a san-mai blade made from my forge-folded skin-steel and a W1 core.
My photography skills are not good enough to show the polishing work, but the blades were the last two of mine to be polished by Brandon Thell.
The tanto is a moderately large hiza-zukuri style, but the wakizashi is the more unusual unokubi-zukuri. Both blades were designed to be large and powerful blades, to reflect the personality and martial arts style of the owner.
